Hi !
My name is Julie Claveau.
I’m an astrophysicst.

I am currently an Earth Observation (EO) Program Officer at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). My team provides funding
opportunities for EO applications in Canada as contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
My previous role was as Program Scientist in Space Astronomy, where I acted as Canada’s JWST Deputy Mission Manager.
In this role, I was responsible for international partnerships,
Canadian space sector contracts, as well as JWST observation research grants.
I also have experience in satellite mission operations, project management, and military operations.

I am also CSA’s Co-Chair of the Women in STEM Advisory Committee and a standing member of the
Advisory Committee on Employment Equity and Diversity. I volunteer with Skype a Scientist as a Science Communicator to youth. I’m a mentor for SEDS Canada, Zenith Pathways Foundation and UNOOSA space4women. I’m also an advisor for SEDS Canada.

For more information, please check out my LinkedIn.

I love talking about JWST, Astrophysics, Diversity & Inclusion in space, International Collaborations,
Earth Observation and my career path to all levels.

I’m open to any kind of speaking engagements such as (but not exclusive to) keynote, panellist,
school presentations, podcasts and interviews. Please contact me at julie.claveau@gmail.com or julie.claveau@asc-csa.gc.ca.

Selected Speaking Engagements

Julie Claveau is a Program Scientist in Space Astronomy at the Canadian Space Agency. She is presenting her work on the James Webb Space Telescope and Co-Chair of CSA’s Women in STEM Committee in her Keynote Speech for the UVic Women in Science 2022 Symposium.

Julie Claveau was a panelist for Ascension 2022’s “New Frontiers in Space Tech” Panel where she discussed recent and upcoming space technologies with colleagues from the private sector and academia.

Julie Claveau and Mays Ahmad acted as Canadian delegates & speakers at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) #Space4Women Expert Meeting 2021. We presented the Canadian Space Agency women in STEM committee that we co-chair.

Présentation en français de mon cheminement de carrière et de l’implication du Canada dans la mission spatiale James Webb au Club d’astronomie Boréalides du Planétarium de Saint-Félicien.

We had the distinct pleasure of hearing from @xfallenmoon (Julie) about the James Webb Space Telescope, and Canada's lead contributions in this huge mission. This talk was hosted on December 08, 2021 weeks before the successful launch.

Canada is at the forefront of space research and innovation. We often hear about the beginning of space missions, followed by the results and new discoveries years later, but we seldom hear of what goes on in between. Julie Claveau will talk about Canada’s role and contributions in the James Webb Space Telescope mission, as well as the mission’ science objectives. She will conclude by giving a peek into the lengthy process of getting a mission ready for launch, including her role as Deputy Mission Manager.
